1. Longer winter break! (disclaimer: excludes skeleton crew)

Our CEO’s just announced that we will be having a longer winter break starting this winter and while everyone was cheering and clapping, I thought to myself.. “how could that be possible for me, when I have deadlines and such?”

A moment later, they said.. the “skeleton crew” will have to remain, but they will be compensated with added floating holidays. blah.

I say, forget the extended holiday altogether and show me the money! I want a bonus and a raise, not time away from work that only results in working from your blackberry and/or laptop while you’re away, anyway. Things still need to get done whether you’re in Hawaii or right down the street.

Who is this person that I’ve turned into? Years ago, I would’ve gladly taken time off from work, just to be away, and I’d simply shut my phone off and go “non-existent.” Now, even if I shut my phone off, you’ll still catch me logging into my email and “working” on things. Maybe this means I’m growing up, or going insane.. one of the two. Who knows?

A man named John de Graaf (Digital Journal) wants me to relax. Literally. But how/why? There’s so much to do…right?

Here’s a list of vacation (mandatory and not) time off in other countries

Through John’s advocacy group “Take Back Your Time,” he is urging Americans to stop working long hours and politically mandate a paid vacation bill. Why is overwork damaging the U.S.? hmmm damaging?
